Critical illness myopathy is a relatively recent diagnosis that has become a hot button topic for denied claims in the acute hospital and in the IRF setting. This session will discuss the clinical presentation and clues to look for to determine whether CIM is an accurate diagnosis or additional information or query is necessary to support it. Key descriptions to effectively document the full deficits of CIM and support the severity of illness and medical necessity for this condition are key to accurate reimbursement. Discussion will include information on typical treatments and potential root causes of CIM that support the need for care and how to differentiate it with other similar conditions.are going to be getting to the heart of matter with these new AMI codes in hopes that you can breathe a little easier.
