In our IRF world barriers to appropriate payment appear to be on the rise.  While we provide quality care, often payments associated with that care are less than expected or taken back.  Mostly this can occur due to missing required technical elements, lack of clear documentation to support the need for care provided and/or details that describe the specific care provided; and, unclear or lack of description of the underlying reason for the impairment and comorbid conditions.  Join us as we provide strengthening food for thought and information on how you can have somebody to lean on that will reduce risk of improper claims and increase opportunity for a healthier bottom line.

This session will focus on bridging unhealthy gaps in process and documentation through Clinical Documentation Improvement.

Objectives:

  • Participant will be able to describe why CDI is essential for progress within the IRF environment.
  • Participant will be able to describe effective methods to utilize and train a CDI Specialist for rehab specific needs.
  • Participant will be able to discuss common pitfalls in documentation that result in tier loss; incorrect IGC’s and lack of 60% qualification.
  • Participant will be able to discuss the pros and cons of implementing CDI and what a best practice IRF CDI program looks like.
